LeanZero

Two people in Romania doing Atlassian migrations, Forge apps and practical AI work for teams that would rather talk to the person doing the job. Most of what we learn ends up on this site.

What Elzi is

A Mac app where AI agents do real work, on local models, cloud models or both.

Elzi is LeanZero's Mac app for working with AI agents. You give Elzi a job in plain words, inside a project folder, and she plans it, uses the tools you've allowed and stops to ask when she needs you. She can run on local models served by the LeanZero MLX engine on your own Macs, on cloud models through your own provider keys, or on a mix of both. Elzi is built on open-source projects, Rapid-MLX among them, runs on Apple silicon Macs, and was called Goose Swarm before release 4.0.0.

Three kinds of work

Most of what you do in Elzi is one of three things: talk to an agent in a session, have a swarm of agents build software from one brief, or run a benchmark that scores a model on a frozen task.

Where the models come from

Providers are where models come from: the LeanZero MLX engine on your own Macs, or a cloud provider with your key. Nodes are the models Elzi hands work to, and strategies are the rules for which node does what. On your own hardware the engine can serve a model from one Mac or split it across two, with prompt lookup and a memory lock for speed. The speed page lists what we measured.

Everything else in the app

  • Images: local image generation, since 4.1.0.
  • Voices: spoken takes, since 4.1.2 and off by default.
  • LeanZero Link: your other Macs, for models, copies and splits.
  • Skills, MCPs and Memories to extend what an agent knows and can do.
  • A tour that shows you around on first launch. Restart it from Settings > Help > Show Me Around or from the Help menu.
  • A command-line tool in the app bundle, lza, with elzi as a second name for it.

Install and updates

Elzi runs on macOS on Apple silicon; the download is not for Intel Macs. Each release is Developer ID signed and notarized. The newest is 4.1.3, published on 6 November 2026. Updates come through the app's updater and install when the app quits. Download it from the Elzi page, which also has the user manual and the release notes. Elzi is licensed under the Apache License 2.0.
